Great job! I found it difficult at first to get used to the controls but once I got the hang of hanging and bursting I felt more in control. Very fun!
I did find the sound a little annoying after a while though, especially when I kept dying, so I played the last two rooms without headphones. I also had to skip the second last level, as it kept registering my dashes as the wrong direction (though I was playing in browser, so this could have been due to my connection/laptop). But amazing work for the two week!
Yeah, the sounds can be a bit piercing. I might look into other sfx tools.
With the wrong dash direction being registered, is it something like you're trying to dash up but instead you dash into the direction you're facing? If you aren't pressing down a direction, by default you just dash into the direction you're facing. What might be happening is you're pressing the up button a split second after pressing dash, so it's not registering as the dash direction.
The dash controls can be a bit unforgiving like that. I already added a bit of delay to accept late direction presses, but I guess it may not have been enough. Though like you said, it may also just be your connection.
I'm glad you enjoyed it despite that though! Thanks for the feedback!
Yeah, it was dashing across instead of up. I had to leave quite a gap between holding up and pressing dash. But fairly sure it was the internet/my computer causing the issue, as no one else seems to have an issue.
That's browser gaming for you, I guess. I guess I better include downloadable versions. I'm sure there are other people experiencing this. I'll keep this in mind for the future.
very fun game, the controls were weird and hard to use until i noticed the alternate controls in the description. The aesthetic and general look / sound of the game is great however, and was definitely great
I'm glad you found the alternate controls useful. The default controls made the most sense for me, but apparently many people were having a hard time with them.
Really nice game in my opinion, my only grievance really would be that the controls are rather uncomfortable, and after a while my fingers were starting to hurt a bit, but aside from that really well done! Can't wait to see more!
I really like the aesthetic and throwback sound design in the game. I'm also a huge fan of Celeste and platformers in general, so the mechanics are right down my alley. However, the keyboard control layout kills this for me unfortunately. I could only make it to level 3 or so before I had to start skipping around.
For some reason, my brain just doesn't gel with the controls, maybe I just need a controller?
Do you use a controller with Celeste, or play on console? Because I just used the default Celeste keyboard config.
Many people are having a hard time with the controls though, probably also because of the hard levels. I'd love to support controllers, but I don't have one right now. Soon, hopefully.
This has to be the best game of jam. I didn't expect to enjoy this type of wall jumping. The controls and level design are super tight and very well executed. I would expect at least this much from a paid game. One complaint is that I wasn't able to be the last part of the last level, and I felt a little confused what I needed to do differently. Fast fall for a frame or 2 then dash dash? It felt like spikes dropped on me if I was too slow and if I was too fast. So I may have just needed to time it perfectly. Dash soon enough but not too soon?
Best game of the jam might be taking it too far, but I'm glad you liked it! I'm pretty proud of how the controls came out. I actually replayed Celeste to take some notes.
With the last level, it's fall a bit, dash, fall a bit, then dash again. If you do the dashes too early, you'll run into the spikes, too late and they'll fall onto you.
Fun game! I was really bad at the wall clinging and there were a couple of levels I couldn't manage so I'm really glad you added a skip level button so I could see the whole game.

Yeah, many people are having a hard time with the controls. I'll look into being able to customize the controls. Thanks for the feedback!

Oh yea, 100% a controller with platformers. Unless it's like a simple run and jump one.
Hey, nice work on the game though! It did come out really well!
